In the Genes

Our banner features the well-known local attraction New Regent Street. The Street was developed by Arthur Stacey who is the grandfather of Intermart’s founder Peter Hatherley.
Peter’s other grandfather Ned Hatherley also played a major role in this unique commercial development. He ran the company that created all the intricate deco style features that makes the street such a prominent Christchurch attraction until the Earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
Incredibly, these two pioneers completed the entire development during the Great Depression. Unlike many others they proved that something of real substance can be accomplished even when others don’t think it can.
